Hey friends! It’s been a long time since I’ve done an update on my acne journey! This morning I was reviewing past posts on the subject and I am actually really surprised by what I’ve already written! Much of what I said last year still rings true today. Ding-ding-ding! It’s definitely exciting to be able to share an update on how practicing a positive outlook on life can really change my mind, soul and body (i.e. skin) in more ways than one!
The Truth about Diet
In December’s issue of our Monthly Newsletter, you’ll remember a discovery I made with blood types and nutrition. Since that time I’ve made further discoveries that our bodies are not created by a “one-size-fits-all” standard. Blood types may indeed have a role to play in figuring out what foods to eat or avoid, I’ll give you that. But here’s where the rubber meets the road: taking time to experiment with cutting out foods is the best option to figure out what triggers certain acne flair-ups. (Unless you’re going to see a doctor, of course.) I know, I know. Time.
Keeping a pretty good record over the last year of what foods disrupt my GI tract has revealed that I cannot eat:
- Some unfermented dairy products
Thankfully it’s not too hard to stay away from these foods. And if I stay away from most, especially corn and sugar, the majority of my forehead acne goes away completely.
The neatest thing I’ve found in learning about diets and food elimination is how many people are figuring out the same things as I am. More than ever, I believe we are coming to the realization that not everyone can eat the same things and live a healthy lifestyle. We are made unique! That is nothing to be ashamed of. I also believe that the more we talk about this, the more our voice will be heard in the world of science. Fingers crossed.
A Little Note on Supplements
Before I leave the diet topic, you should know that Charlotte and I have experienced amazing digestive support using YL’s Essentialzyme and Digest + Cleanse. These two supplements are the bomb as far as aiding the digestive process. We don’t feel any kind of discomfort and have experienced better overall health inside and out (including skin health!) when taking one of both before a meal.
Proactively Releasing Toxic Emotions
The first thing I’ll admit here is that diet, although very important, isn’t everything when it comes to improving skin. So much of what we look like on the outside comes from what we’re feeling on the inside. It’s just like what I talked about in this post. Toxic emotions do indeed take a toll on our bodies when we don’t take the time to release and renew. My complexion is the perfect record to prove it.
Over the last few months, I have been working on discovering my core toxic emotional patterns. Once I can name them, I can release them through aromatherapy. You’d be surprised how often we can lapse into negative emotional postures. The good news is, each negative emotion can be released by smelling the appropriate essential oil, and meditating on the positive side of the emotion.*
Working out my emotional kinks has definitely improved my complexion. For one, it’s no longer painful or cystic. For another, it doesn’t last as long. I can always tell when I’m emotionally imbalanced just by monitoring my skin. It’s weird, yes, but I’ve grown used to it now. Most importantly, I’m learning to be thankful for these little warning signs.
Keeping My Eyes on Christ
I don’t know if I could ever say it enough. Keeping my eyes on Christ has been the most amazing thing I’ve put into practice this year… perhaps in my whole life! I have noticed that not only is my mind more open, but my heart is so free of burden! Every single day is a new opportunity to draw closer to Him. The more I have trained my mind and heart to focus on Him my old fears have fallen away. Beauty has been awakened inside, and I understand now how inward beauty is vastly different from outward.
So yes, you may still see a spotty face, but this girl just doesn’t care anymore. My identity is sealed. I am loved, cherished and valued by my Creator first. This place is a place of peace. I pray that you will find it and cling to it just as I have.
*I would love to do a separate post on this topic! If you’re interested, do let me know in the comments below.
