DIY Essential Oil Infused Toner

Charlotte and I just hosted our Young Living Beauty Night last Saturday with eight very special ladies. During the class, we mentioned that we made our own essential oil infused toner. Of course, the request to post the recipe for the toner was quite popular so we decided to share it with all of you this week! We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Better get out that incredible Apple Cider Vinegar again because it’s going into your toner! If you’re anything like me, gagging at the thought of drinking ACV, let me reassure you that it is much more bearable when applied to your skin. 😉

Why We Use a Toner

Toners are irreplaceable if you are looking to up your skincare regime. Especially so if you have acne-prone skin or clogged pores. Sometimes we don’t always wash off all of the grime, even if we have a great face wash to use. Depending on the layers of product you have put on your skin on a given day, like sunscreen and makeup, you might need that extra boost of clean to get your skin primed for rejuvenating solutions like moisturizers.

The #1 most important thing a toner does, though, is to replenish the all-important acid mantle that keeps your skin healthy. Unfortunately, the high-end brands of skincare don’t cut it as far as safety goes. There are too many chemicals to account for, and not enough information to regard them as perfectly safe. That’s where apple cider vinegar comes in to play.

Skin Loves ACV + Oils

Believe it or not, Apple Cider Vinegar actually has many of the attributes a toner is supposed to have, like:

  • Restoring the natural pH of our skin
  • Acting as a natural astringent to remove dirt, and excess oil produced by sebaceous glands
  • Contains alpha hydroxy acids to remove dead skin cells lying on the surface of the skin

As you can see, this is essentially everything a toner should be, but it’s 100% natural! In addition to this, when you put some of the top skin supporting oils in any skin care solution, you’ll benefit tremendously from their therapeutic qualities.

DIY Toner Recipe

  • 1 dark-tinted glass bottle (avoid plastic, as it will absorb the essential oils. Not good.)
  • 1/2 cup organic unpasteurized Apple Cider Vinegar (Preferably one with “The Mother” probiotic strain in it. We would recommend Braggs)
  • 1/2 cup filtered water (you can use distilled)
  • 10 drops each of your choice of Young Living’s skin supporting oils (see more on that below). We love Lavender to balance, Frankincense to rejuvenate, and Copaiba to relieve.

Simply combine the ACV and water into your glass bottle of choice (Again, plastic or any porous material will absorb all of the essential oil!). Add 20-30 drops of Lavender, Frankincense, Copaiba, or any other skin supporting essential oil, and shake. Ta-da! Get yourself a cotton ball and swipe the toner over your face. Mmm! Nice and tingly!

Cost Effective Oils

20 + drops may seem like a lot when they are coming from bottles that hold 90 (5 ml bottle) to 250 (15 ml bottle) drops. However, consider the fact that you’re adding 20 + drops to a whole container of Toner. The Toner itself lasts us two months when used morning and evening. That means that every day you will be applying about half a drop of the blend of oils you put into the toner. So it still proves to be cost-efficient and effective at the same time.

Customize Your Toner

Below is an excellent chart showcasing the variety of skin supporting essential oils. Depending on where your skin is at currently, you can mix and match the oils. This is your skin. You know it best. If you need three oils from one category, then great! If you need one from each, that works, too. I formulated our recipe to work with the skin care Charlotte and I need. There are no right or wrong answers to this chart. Also, you can actually find some of the top skin supporting essential oils like Frankincense, Lavender, Purification and Copaiba in Premium Starter Kit! Isn’t that great?

Note: The ones with the hearts beneath them are the ones we use in the recipe.

Charlotte and I plan to cover more skin care topics in the future, so there’s more where this came from! We’re definitely not doctors, nor are we health professionals. But, with all the things we’ve tried and the experiences we’ve had, we know what works for us. The road to good skin care can be so frustrating and hard, but we are here so you don’t have to go through the hassles we did to get to the point we’re at right now. Remember, we’re in this together! And, if you join the B.Well Team, we’ll always be there to support & help you personally on your oily journey! 🙂

Have you ever used ACV as a skin toner?

What skin supporting essential oils would you try?

Blessings to you all!

Jessica B.
