Hey, everyone! At last! I get to bring you a topic that’s been on my heart for a long time – using essential oils to release negative emotions. However, before I get into the what’s and how’s, you should know I did not come up with this emotional release method myself. The honors go to the Author of “Releasing Emotional Patterns with Essential Oils,” Carolyn L. Mein D.C. For many years, Carolyn has studied and practiced Nutritional and Chiropractic health alternatives. She has also known Young Living’s Company Founder, D. Gary Young long before Young Living ever began. This fine lady is an expert in her field, and through her intuitive insight, has figured out how the emotional side of the body can be accessed through aromatherapy.
Because there is so much to be said on this topic, the article is far too long to be confined to one post. So, for your benefit, I divided it up. Part 1 covers how the oils work with the body to release negative emotions. Part 2 covers the actual release process along with my own experience using this method. On the whole, I pray it is a blessing to you!
What Are Negative Emotions?
Emotions are a build up of energy the body creates to help us respond to life’s experiences. Negative emotions come from either perceived or real negative experiences we face throughout life.
Let’s say you’re in the car driving to your job. As you’re speeding along the highway, suddenly all the cars in front come to a slow halt. Unfortunately for you, there is no way to get around the traffic + the predicament is making you late for work! The energy of anger is building all around you and even inside you. Being angry doesn’t solve the problem, though it only makes it worse. In fact, it could ruin the whole rest of your day if you let it get the best of you. The typical response for many of us is to just stuff the negative emotion down. It’s what most of us are taught to do after all. But As we will see, this is not the best solution at all.
Without a physical release, the limbic system of the brain (i.e. the seat of emotions) actually takes the emotional memory and stores it in a specific organ/gland in the body which holds the same energy frequency as the emotion. Here is a brief list to show you what I mean (oils for releasing the emotions included)
Liver – Anger – Purification
Kidneys – Fear of Love – 3 Wise Men
Stomach – Control – Peace & Calming
Spleen – Guilt – Clarity
Small Intestine – Abandonment – Lavender
Large Intestine – Fear of Success – Release
Heart – Loneliness – White Angelica
Lungs – Unmotivated – Lime
Adrenal Glands – Exhaustion – Nutmeg / En-R-Gee
Why Storing Negative Emotions is Bad for Us
The difficulty with storing emotions in the body lies in the fact that they are stored on a cellular level. The DNA of the organ’s cells, to be exact! In the case of anger, the more the negative energy of that emotion is loaded into the organ it’s stored in, the more the body’s DNA is programmed. Not only will your response never change, but the build-up of negative energy inevitably creates chronic pain and/or illness in the organ the emotion is held in. We call this bodily pain an alarm point. At this point, it’s hard to access and will take time & effort to release the negative emotion before we can replace it with a positive one.
If neither expressing nor stuffing down a negative emotion will help us, what do we do instead? Amazingly, God in His love and mercy already had a plan in place to help us. He designed prayerful meditation and essential oils to go hand in hand to help us release our baggage. 🙂
How Essential Oils Release Negative Emotions
The limbic system of the brain was designed to be accessed only through our sense of smell. Not touch, taste, or hearing. No, God intended that aromas be the keys to unlock our emotional memories. Think about it – what is it that takes you back to a happy memory with Grandma but the smell of her perfume or the aroma of freshly baked cookies? This says a lot about the value of aromatherapy! But there is something even more amazing about essential oils that sets them apart from any other aromas in the world… Sesquiterpenes.
All essential oils contain sesquiterpenes. However, oils such as Frankincense, Sacred Sandalwood, and Cedarwood have higher quantities which is why we call them brain/emotion-supporting oils. It is important to note that only therapeutic-grade essential oils are appropriate to use for an emotional release. When we inhale an oil, the sesquiterpenes increase oxygen in the limbic system of the brain which unlocks the DNA of the cells in our body and releases emotional baggage! Finally, unlocking the DNA opens up new opportunities for something amazing – replacing the negative with the positive!
God Made These Oils for Us!
Ask me how I know God loves me. My answer is this – “He created essential oils for me so that I can learn how to be a better servant of Christ.” Now, I’m trying really hard right now not to tell you everything here in this post but friends! Without a shadow of a doubt, God made these oils for us! They are tools He gave us to help us draw close to Him, renew our hearts and minds – from the DNA upwards – and find His strength in our weakness! This is truly a glorious life we live!
Stay tuned for Part 2!
