Wow, you guys. Last weekend we helped welcome into the world our first ever Nephew (!!!), and became Aunty Lotta & Aunty Jessica… and we couldn’t be more thrilled! Holding that tiny life in my arms, and grasping just how untainted he was, how fresh & new his little life really struck me. I wanted to help protect him from ever being exposed to toxins, and I hope & pray he will be one of the many children from my & my sisters’ generation that grows up wondering what on earth is Windex, or fluoride. I am thankful that God has instilled in my sisters and I a passion for healthy living. Imagine what changes can occur in our toxic culture through this next generation that we help produce!
Healthier Habits, Healthier Life
Though we can’t rewind the clock for ourselves, we can be moving forward. Every day is a new day. You can begin fresh habits, make a big decision that will change your life, and create a more healthy, vibrant lifestyle. You have all the tools at your fingertips, it’s just a matter of implementing them!
Today I want to talk about 5 simple things that you can do RIGHT NOW to live a healthier life. This isn’t rocket science, it’s just a little common sense, a dash of diligence & self-control, and an open mind. Ready? Let’s dive right in!
#1 Drink More Water
You’ve heard it before, now it’s time to implement. Our culture is chronically dehydrated, and many of us have forgotten the beauty & simplicity of pure water in the wake of soda, fruit juice, and other sugary (inflammatory) drinks. Your next step to better health, clearer skin, better system detoxification, and less stress on your entire body (including your mind) could be as simple as upping your water intake.
Just think: it’s totally free, and totally effective! What’s holding you back?
You should be drinking at least half your body weight in ounces, every day. Here’s your formula:
Your Body Weight ÷ 2 = Ounces of Water You Should Be Drinking
For me, that’s 6, 10oz glasses, for you it might be different. The most effective way to establish this new habit is to have a sticky note by your water glass and tally off every time you drink a full glass. Simple. Easy. Done.
If you can’t stand the taste: girl, it’s time for a taste-bud overhaul. Add ice, maybe a drop of Vitality oil (lemon or orange are amaaaazing!), and do what you have to to get that daily intake. It’s worth every sip! Give it time, and you will eventually fall in love with God’s purest liquid all over again.
#2 Cut Out the Sugar
This one is harder than the first, most definitely. Cutting out sugar doesn’t just mean candy or dessert. It means Starbucks frappes, granola bars, even some dried fruit! Sugar sneaks into so, so many of our foods these days it’s scary. It’s like the addictive drug that everyone’s on, and nobody realizes it. Take this one slow. Start by cutting back, before you cut out. Maybe have fruit for dessert instead of ice cream. Stop buying those sugary granola bars, and opt for a no-sugar-added option. Don’t get Starbucks every week, and instead limit it to once or twice a month.
Our family used to get milkshakes at our local UDF every week, but that has disappeared from our lives and only happens once in a blue moon. I used to get lemonade at every restaurant meal, but now I can hardly stand the drink. It’s possible to cut out sugar, it just takes conviction & determination. Habits take time to solidify, taste buds & gut bacteria take time to readjust. Remember, it means less stress & inflammation in your body and a healthier life overall. #worthit
#3 Take a Daily Walk
I’m sitting here guilty as charged. It’s not every day that I get to take a walk, but when I do I feel so much better than if I hadn’t! Even light exercise like walking can majorly impact your body’s detoxification processes, wake up your brain, and help destress you. This leads to a whole host of beautiful side-effects like a happier mood, fit & limber muscles, revved metabolism, and much more. This is also a simple step towards implementing, even more, exercise into your lifestyle, like running or cardio.
It’s simple, just go for a walk.
#4 Throw Away Every Candle & Air Freshener
I know this one may be really hard for some. Candles are like Christmas stockings: they’re a part of our culture! Everyone and their cat posts about their pumpkin scented candles as soon as September rolls around. Air fresheners are just straight-up convenient when you cook a smelly meal or need a room refresh.
But hear me out: these products are loaded, I repeat: LOADED with synthetics. Synthetics are just that: synthetic, man-made. Our bodies were not made to process these toxins. They react through headaches, bodily aches & pains, fatigue, brain fog, and more. Look it up.
Do you and your entire house a favor: ditch them. Ditch them all. Get up right now, go through your house and gather all your scented candles and air fresheners. Now take a deep, deep breath, and throw them all away. You can do it. I believe in you.
There. You just unburdened your entire household of some of the most toxic products ever. Go you!! Pat yourself on the back. You exercised your rule as Gatekeeper of your home, and BOY does it feel good! Take that, toxic culture!
#5 Start Using Oils
This might be one of the simplest tips of all. Detoxing your entire bathroom & kitchen is as simple as a valuable kit of essential oils arriving on your doorstep.
