Hey, friends! Today I want to sit down and chat with you about living life, toxin-free. It can be so easy to get overwhelmed by all the options, perspectives, research, details… especially so when you are pursuing a toxin-free lifestyle. We are immersed in a culture where fake food & artificial ingredients are hiding in just about everything consumable, even the things touted as “natural”. You think that the homemade soap you bought from your friend will be toxin-free because it isn’t coming from the big-box chemical companies… but then you find out it has synthetic fragrance or cheap essential oils, and you’re right back where you started with the toxic soap from the store. It can get so frustrating. Today, however, I want to take out the guess-work and break down how and why a toxin-free lifestyle doesn’t have to be complicated.
Pssst! Don’t know what I mean by “toxins” and “synthetics”? Check out this video!
Prioritize, Prioritize, Prioritize!
First thing’s first: you’ve got to prioritize! I can not emphasize this enough. When you are starting something new, you have to begin it in a way that will seamlessly transition it to a daily part of your lifestyle. You don’t want a new fad that you pick up for a week and then forget about. Figure out what your priorities are, and then follow them. If it helps, write out a roadmap of where you want to be 6 or 12 months from now. Month 1, swap out your skin care, month 2, your cleaning supplies, etc.
Priorities also play a role in deciding what brands you buy from. It’s helpful to use apps like Think Dirty to find out how toxin-laden your current products are. Once you educated yourself in that realm, then you need to set your priorities on what ingredients you are going to avoid. For us, if a label has anything that we know ranks a 10 (i.e- most toxic) on the Think Dirty app, we chuck it. If you want an easy list of nasties to avoid, check out my post on 12 toxins to avoid in your personal care products.
Bottom Line: Make it achievable for your lifestyle.
Narrow Down Your Options
Guys, there are SO MANY brands out there that say they’re “all natural”, “green”, or “organic”. A lot of the time, though, this label is just marketing jargon. It can be so hard to find a brand that is actually telling the truth, and not slipping in toxins under labels like “natural flavoring” or “natural fragrance”, which turn out to be absolute garbage. You’ve got to narrow down your options, or else you will get overwhelmed and give up. Do your research, and find a select few brands that you trust for certain aspects of your lifestyle.
For us, Young Living checked all the boxes, and then some. They are totally transparent, honest, founded on good morals, and promise that all their products are pure, safe, and effective through their Seed to Seal process. Watch a video all about their Seed to Seal process here! We can trust them to supply us with Essential Oils, Supplements, Personal Care Products, Hormone Support, Makeup… the list goes on. And let me tell you, it’s pretty incredible to have a company that takes out all the guess work, and supplies you with products that are both toxin-free and work.
Bottom Line: Do your research, and narrow down your options
Do You! Respect You!
Don’t bog yourself down with too much information. Don’t overwhelm yourself with too much research. Learn your boundaries, and respect them. I know for us Boyer Ladies, it’s so easy to overload ourselves with TMI, and then develop toxic emotions like stress. You’ve got to accept that life is a journey, and it’s not going to be a perfect one. No, your floss might not be toxin-free, but at least your tooth powder is! Embrace the positive, and accept the negative as a challenge.
It’s amazing & healthy to surround yourself with a supportive community and be inspired by others! But, you’ve got to remember that you are you, and nobody else is you. Respecting your unique pace & priorities is the fastest route to your personal success. The best part about embracing your story? You have something personal and unique that you can use to inspire and motivate others. Toxin-Free isn’t always just about you, it can also be about blessing others, too.
Bottom Line: Embrace your personal story, and go toxin-free as your lifestyle & boundaries allow.
Well, that’s all I have for today. Let me know in the comments how you are making a toxin-free life achievable for you!
