Wowza! After last weeks post on toxins to stay away from, I bet you’re all reeling! I don’t blame you, it is overwhelming! But did you know that there is one toxic ingredient we didn’t talk about last week? How about that fluoride hiding out in your minty-fresh toothpaste. Friends, don’t just believe me, do a little research and google the dangers of fluoride. You’ll discover for yourself why it’s time to say goodbye to that sparkly blue goo and hello to easy, effective tooth powder + Thieves essential oil!
DIY Toothpaste Replacement
After watching a documentary on fluoride and the havoc it reeks on our bodies, daily, we immediately looked up replacements for our plastic tubes of sparkly blue goo. This is what we found…
Bentonite Clay: acts as a gentle cleanser that is rich in minerals and allows for good tooth mineralization. This amazing clay, if untouched by metal, has the amazing ability to detox any surface of toxins and bacteria. This means fresh breath and healthy gums you guys!
Activated Charcoal: has the amazing ability to absorb tannins from food stains like coffee, tea, herbal teas, wine, blueberries, and spices like cinnamon.
Baking Soda: acts as a mild abrasive to help scrub and polish your teeth from plaque and helps your breath stay fresh.
Sea Salt: is an antiseptic and contains trace minerals which help in tooth remineralization. Its antiseptic property will help your gums stay healthy and the trace minerals will help your teeth remain strong.
Thieves Essential Oil: Is wonderful for supporting your immune system, and because it is a blend of clove, cinnamon, rosemary and lemon essential oils, Thieves pretty much completes the oral support you need when brushing your teeth.
DIY Tooth Powder Recipe
- 1 Glass Jar
- 4Tbsp Bentonite Clay
- 4 Capsules Activated Charcoal
- 2 tsp Baking Soda
- 2 tsp finely ground unrefined Sea Salt
- 15 Drops Thieves Vitality Essential Oil
Combine the bentonite clay and activated charcoal in a container and set aside. Combine the salt and baking soda in a small glass or stainless steel bowl and add 15 drops of Thieves Vitality essential oil. Using a stainless steel fork (never use plastic utensils as they will absorb the oil), stir the oil into the salt and baking soda to combine. Combine the thieves mixture to the tooth powder and stir with a small wooden spoon to combine.
Now all you have to do is dip a toothbrush into the powder and… ta-da! You’ve got easy, effective toothpaste!
Experience the Feeling of Clean!
When we used the generic brands of toothpaste, our family always noticed a build up of plaque on our teeth and gums, no matter how often we brushed. So, of course, twice a year we would have to take a trip to the dentist to get it all off. I later discovered that the plaque build up was from the glycerin filler used in most toothpaste. Ew!
Several years before we joined Young Living we had already made the switch and had been using the homemade tooth powder. With it, we were experiencing the best dental health of our lives! Which meant no more plaque! That’s how powerful the ingredients are! The best part was our visits to the dentist. They would always ask, how in the world do you keep your teeth so clean? We walked out laughing because the dentist hardly had anything to scrub off! How’s that for a natural alternative?
Adding the Thieves Vitality to our powder has only increased our dental support and we love the spicy taste of our powder now. All in all, it was worth the switch, and I’d say we’ve definitely save money from not having to buy those tubes of blue goo.
Dental Support with Young Living
Now, if you’re not like us, and don’t have the time to make your own toothpaste, I would highly recommend you check out Young Living’s Thieves Toothpaste. They also carry a wonderful Thieves infused Dental Floss! These products are slightly more pricey than your generic brand of toothpaste, they are extra concentrated, which means you only need a little bit for it to be effective. Besides, isn’t your health worth every penny?
Did you know you can make your own toothpaste replacement?
Have you ever brushed your teeth with Thieves essential oil?
