Hey, friends! I have something special for you today 🙂 Young Living announced its release of their brand new makeup line, Savvy Minerals, this past June. Jessica and I could hardly wait to get our hands on the stuff, as soon as we found out about it! I mean, duh! Young Living’s Seed to Seal Quality + Makeup = HOLLA! Yes, please!
The only draw back? Woooo, but does this stuff cost a pretty penny. Especially the Foundation, which is what I’m going to be reviewing today. If there is one thing that I have learned about your health & living a non-toxic life, you have to make investments for stuff that works. It’s all about balancing the budget, and learning where to cut corners (DIY-ing, hacks, etc.) and where to invest (quality, purity, etc.).
For me, I’ve learned the hard way that good makeup is worth every penny. I’ve tried everything from the stupid, not to mention toxic, foundation from the drugstore to the “high-end” (still toxic) foundations, to the not-so-high-end, but still moderately expensive “natural” foundation. You guys, if you’re like me and have troubled skin, save yourself some time and get you some Savvy Minerals. Spoiler Alert: I love this stuff.
Game Changer Foundation
Hi! I’m Charlotte, and I have the worst skin ever for wearing makeup. Acne prone? Check! Makeup is practically gone/is in gross cakes and streaks over my face by the end of the day? Check! And don’t preach to me about makeup setting spray, setting powder, and all that jazz. Tried it. Doesn’t work.
Honestly, Savvy Minerals came out at a good time for me. I was so sick and tired and absolutely HATED my natural liquid foundation. I felt so, SO gross every time I wore it, and my skin would be detoxing (read: pimples) days afterward, even though it was “natural”. Eventually, I got to the point where I just didn’t wear it anymore. I was allowing my skin to just be itself, and was working on getting it to the point where I could a) not have to wear makeup at all because my skin was awesome, and b) wear makeup and not have to worry about it slicking off because my skin was oily/gross.
Not with Young Living. My wait was over! Why? Minerals, you guys!
Minerals = LOVE!
You see, if you want to do non-toxic foundation, I learned that high-quality mineral/powder foundation is the way to go. The moment you add water to any makeup solution, you have to then add preservatives, fillers, and all that yuck to keep the makeup from going bad (Parabens, anyone? 😛 ). Mineral Makeup is preservative-free (meaning fewer ingredients on your face!) AND it absorbs the oil on your skin. Did y’all read that??? Every-skin-type REJOICE! At last, a foundation that adapts to your oil production! Oh guys, talk about game-changer!
Another thing about this beautiful, blessed Savvy Minerals Foundation? No bismuth. If you guys have ever tried mineral foundation in the past, and have broken out horribly because of it (read: Jessica. Yep, she’s experienced this)… no need to fear! Savvy Minerals has you covered. Bismuth is an ingredient in most conventional mineral makeup products and is made up of tiny shards of metal (yikes!) that get into your pores and aggravate your skin, causing breakouts. Ewwww!
Besides this, Savvy Minerals Foundation is also formulated without talc, parabens, phthalates, petrochemicals, synthetic fragrances, or synthetic colorants. BOOM.
Here’s what IS in this foundation: Mica, Boron nitride, Lauroyl lysine, Populus tremuloides bark extract (<<< heaven for your skin), Kaolin clay, and Silica. Young Living Brand Ambassador Lindsay Elmore has an incredible Facebook Live video talking all about the ingredients of Savvy Minerals if you want more info!
Also, some of you may be wondering how long a container of this lasts. From what I’ve heard from past users who don’t use this on a daily basis, it lasts them about 1 year. So, that’s a one-time per year $44 purchase for YL wholesale members.
My First Impression
So, I got the foundation. What was my experience? Well, lucky for you, I filmed it 😉 With the iPhone taped to my bathroom mirror, I recorded myself applying it for the first time, and what I thought of it!
But, I didn’t want to just stop there with my video review. Like I mentioned above, my biggest struggle with foundation is it lasting throughout the day. So, I filmed my face all day long, too 🙂 You can check out both those videos below!
Here is a hi-res before & after image. I used Savvy Minerals Warm #2, our homemade makeup setting spray, and my stippling brush to apply. Here’s the breakdown of what I think:
- I love how it evens-out my skin tone, diminishes redness and reduces shine
- As far as blemishes go, I have never had good luck covering them up in the past. I am actually impressed with how well this foundation helps hide the redness that comes from having acne. I’m not a huge coverage-freak, so I am very pleased with what I got. Young Living does not offer concealer because the Foundation is so buildable, you really don’t need it. One less purchase, Y’all! I love multitasking products!
- The foundation is literally weightless. I don’t feel it on my skin at all!
- It only takes me about 2 minutes flat to apply.
- I never have any smears or unevenness that I usually get with my “natural” liquid foundation.
- Throughout the day, my skin is shine-free, and the makeup stays put. MAJOR plus, in my book!
Overall I would give this foundation a 10/10. I’m pretty laid-back when it comes to makeup, and just want something that WORKS that I don’t have to feel gross in throughout the day. Savvy Minerals is it for me. I would highly recommend this brand to anyone looking for a toxin-free foundation that works for all skin types.
